Academic TradCat was established in 2015 by Joanne LaMothe and her daughter Kathleen Johnson.

With over 30 years of experience as a sewing teacher and seamstress, Joanne brings expertise to the business. As a mother of 11, she understands how quickly children grow, how often dress codes change, and how expensive it can be to outfit multiple school-age children at once. That’s why we focus on providing durable, comfortable clothing that stands up to daily wear and tear—so parents can focus on what really matters. Our carefully curated inventory includes trusted uniform brands as well as custom-sewn pieces made right in our shop.

Kathleen, an experienced sewing teacher and former student, knows firsthand the challenge of finding clothing that complies with school dress codes. With a strong background in customer service, she understands the importance of quality, affordability, and meeting those standards. At Academic TradCat, she brings her expertise and deep respect for dress code requirements to deliver well-made, comfortable, and compliant apparel.
